Sakari Viika / Hotel Yugoslavia Artist in residence program KC Grada / book promotion / exhibition Book launch of Finish photographer Sakari Viika will be held on 27 November 2018. at 8 PM. Introducing the project from 2014, the book Hotel Yugoslavia consists of photographs Viika did back in 2014 while on a residency at KC Grad in Belgrade. Researching the art scene Viika found out about Nenad Paripović’s iconic art piece from the 1970’s. in the video, Paripović is walking trough Belgrade on a straight line, trying to cross all the physical barriers on his way. Inspired by the video, Viika started documenting own movement through the city. The audience will have the opportunity to meet artists and get limited number of books as well as to see some photographs taken during the artist’s stay in Belgrade. The book launch will be introduced by His Excellency Pertti Ikonen, the Ambassador of Finland. Guest moderator will be David Pujado, photographer, director of ‘Belgrade Photo Month’. Starting in 2014 the ongoing Artist in Residence programme of KC Grad is developed under a theme “Inspiration Belgrade”. Collaborating with various cultural institutions, Belgrade Embassies and Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information, the programme was able to host many artists from Germany, Austria, Spain, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Japan, USA, Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, over the past four years. AIR programme aims at connecting young artists, curators and art scholars with the local art scene in Serbia, and provide a base for future projects and collaborations with local artists. The potential of the scene is always in focus, with regards to represent it to the world wide audience.
